Inspiration for the weekend: activities suitable for people with IBD

Living with IBD can be challenging, especially when the weekend arrives and you’re craving active rest, but your body has other plans. In today’s blog post, we’re going to focus on a few inspiring and safe activities that may be the perfect choice for those living with IBD. Our goal is to show you that despite the challenges this disease brings, you can still have a fun and fulfilling weekend. So sit back, relax and let’s dive into a world of possibilities.

1) A leisurely walk in nature or light hiking:

A walk in nature is one of the best activities you can do if you’re living with IBD. It doesn’t require extreme physical effort and also allows you to connect with nature, which can have a positive impact on your mental health. Find a local park, forest or meadow and go for a slow walk. Notice the small details around you – the rustle of the leaves, the birds singing or the smell of the fresh air. You can even take your camera along to capture the beauty of nature, adding an extra level of relaxation and creativity.

2) Yoga or meditation:

Yoga and meditation are great ways to relax and find inner peace. Tailor the exercises to your needs and pace, and if you have the opportunity, join an online course that focuses on gentle stretching exercises. Focus on breathing and awareness of your body. Meditation will help you reduce stress and anxiety, which is especially important for people living with IBD. Such a peaceful start or end to the day can be really refreshing for you.

3) Creative workshops and hobbies:

Activities such as painting, drawing, writing or knitting can be therapeutic and help you escape from everyday stress. Working with your hands and using your imagination will give you a sense of fulfilment and achievement. For example, try creating your own journal to record your thoughts and experiences related to IBD. Such a project can not only be a source of creativity, but also a valuable tool for tracking your progress and managing your symptoms.

4) Relaxing Picnic:

Prepare a light and tasty picnic in the comfort of your garden or balcony. Choose food that is friendly to your digestive system and enjoy it in a pleasant environment. Just having a picnic can combine several useful activities – you can read a book, listen to your favourite music or just be and enjoy the present moment. A picnic can be a great opportunity to relax and unwind.

5) Visiting cultural or historical sites:

If you’re feeling up for a longer walk, try visiting a local museum, gallery or historical site. These places often offer a comfortable setting and a slow pace that is convenient for people with IBD. You’ll get a chance to enrich your knowledge, see interesting exhibits, and spend quality time away from home.

6) Water Activities:

If you have access to a pool or can go to a lake, consider water activities. Swimming or just a leisurely dip in the water can be refreshing and gentle on your body. Water provides natural support and can help relieve tension in your muscles.

7) Movie marathon or book adventure:

Sometimes the best way to unwind is to simply stay home with your favorite stories. Plan a movie marathon with your favorite movies or immerse yourself in a book you’ve been wanting to read for a long time. Such a quiet evening can be the perfect opportunity to regenerate and recharge.

Remember that every day is a new opportunity to discover something beautiful, even if you are living with IBD. The important thing is to listen to your body and find activities that will strengthen your spirit and bring you joy. Whatever decision you make, let it be a journey to your better self – full of peace, creativity and inspiration. Enjoy your weekend and remember that even a small change can make a big difference.

I love hiking because it allows me to discover beautiful views and immerse myself in the smells and atmosphere of the landscape. It's a way for me to get away from my normal work responsibilities and experience its magic for myself.
